The Journey to Sehaj Paath: A Transformative Path to Gurbani Mastery

Embark on an inspiring and immersive journey into the sacred teachings of Gurbani, starting January 2025. This program, offered by the Sikh Missionary Society Singapore, is thoughtfully designed to guide participants of all ages and backgrounds through the art of reading and understanding Gurbani at their own pace, culminating in the completion of a Sehaj Paath.

Program Structure

The program is structured into three progressive levels, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching experience:

Level 1: Foundations in Gurmukhi

Discover the beauty of the Gurmukhi script as you learn the fundamentals of the Punjabi alphabet. This level focuses on:

  • Recognizing and writing Gurmukhi letters.
  • Basic pronunciation and reading techniques.
  • Laying the groundwork for reading Gurbani fluently.

Ideal for beginners or anyone seeking to refresh their foundational knowledge.

Level 2: Building Your Connection

Deepen your connection with Gurbani as you move beyond the basics to:

  • Enhance your fluency in reading Gurmukhi.
  • Understand key vocabulary used in Sikh scriptures.
  • Reflect on the spiritual significance of selected verses.

This level bridges the gap between basic literacy and meaningful engagement with Gurbani.

Level 3: Immersion in Divine Wisdom

In the final phase, immerse yourself fully in the teachings of Gurbani as you:

  • Read longer passages with confidence.
  • Explore the meaning and context of sacred verses.
  • Develop a personal rhythm for completing the Sehaj Paath.

This level is for those ready to experience the transformative power of Gurbani in their daily lives.

Ardas Guide (Consolidated Booklet)

The word “Ardas” literally means “prayer.” It is recited in every Gurdwara program (e.g at the completion of an Akhand Paath, before the Guru is brought into Parkaash, just before the Hukam is taken, and again during Sukhaasan).

The Ardas can also be recited before undertaking any activity of significance, before leaving on a journey, to give thanks, or as a way of daily remembering the Creator (e.g. at the closing of a Sikh's daily prayers or "nitnem").

The Ardas is not an empty ritual - it is crucial in the remembrance of sacrifice and surrender and to invoke blessings from the Guru. Every Sikh is encouraged to learn and recite the Ardas.

The Sikh Missionary Society (Singapore) has prepared a booklet that contains a comprehensive list of many different types of Ardas in Gurmukhi, along with transliterations and English translation.
